High Flying in Bulgaria

Working on a dry mortar plant for Baumit in Yambol, Bulgaria, proved to be quite a climatic stress test. Almost 45,000 metres of cable were laid at a height of 50 m without a protective facade, along with 1,000 metres of conduit and 1,800 metres of cable trays. With temperatures soaring to above 40 °C in the shade and strong winds, which made the tower sway noticeably, this was no easy undertaking.

In an installation such as this it is very difficult to maintain the necessary high statutory safety standards, but especially in this project they were absolutely crucial and indispensable. Our technicians spent a total of some 11,000 installation hours fully secured and fastened in their personal protective equipment. At peak periods, up to
20 electricians were working on the tower at the same time, installing control cabinets, terminal boxes and countless forward control points. In addition, a SIVACON low-voltage substation for power distribution was supplied and installed, complete with 6 switchgear panels.

Just as with the compliance to all the safety standards, the heat and height presented a major challenge, and the entire installation team were praised by the management for their tireless efforts.
